Cable Management Tray, SmartEdge1200H chassis

With the bezel installed, the SmartEdge 1200H router meets more stringent electromagnetic interference (EMI) standards. The bezel fits snugly against the front of the chassis; the only gaps are at the sides to allow cable routing. It hides all the line cards, but not the front panel of the fan and alarm unit. To view the status of the line or controller cards without removing the bezel, you must use either the command-line interface (CLI) or the NetOp Element Manager System (EMS) software.

The bezel requires the installation of a new cable management tray.

1.1   Upgrading to the New Cable Management Tray

The following list replaces the cable management tray description in the “Installing the Cable Tray” section of the “Installing the Hardware” chapter in SmartEdge 1200H Router Hardware Guide:

After you have installed the chassis, as described in SmartEdge 1200H Router Hardware Guide, but before you install the air ramps, install the new cable management tray:

  1. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the seven 6-32x 2.25 inch screws that secure the cable management tray to the chassis and remove it from the chassis.

  1. On the new cable management tray, squeeze the latch at the center of the front panel to pull down the front panel.
  2. Align the screw holes in the new cable management tray with the screw holes in the chassis and insert seven 6-32x2.25 inch screws, using the retain screws that are provided with the new unit; tighten each screw to a maximum torque of 9.6 inch-lbs (1.08 Newton-meters).

1.2   Routing Cables

Proceed with the hardware installation until you are ready to route the cables at the front of the chassis.

Figure 3   Cable Routing

This procedure replaces the procedure described in the “Connecting and Routing the Cables at the Front of the Chassis” section in SmartEdge 1200H Router Hardware Guide. To connect and route the cables at the front of the chassis:

  1. Squeeze the latch at the center of the cable management tray and pull down to fully expose the inner brackets and outer guides.
  2. Connect and route the fiber-optic cables:

     Caution!
Risk of equipment damage. Never twist a cable when connecting it to or disconnecting it from a line card. These cables are fragile and are easily damaged when bent. When routing fiber-optic cables, ensure that you do not bend the cables more than is needed to insert them into the inner brackets.
    1. Starting with the line cards installed in the outer slots at the left side of the chassis (1 to 3), insert each cable for the card into the appropriate connectors.
    2. Guide the cables into the area between the inner brackets and the outer guides, and then slide them into the area between the inner brackets that flank the card.
    3. Tie-wrap the cables and attach the tie to the inner bracket at the left of the card using one of the holes provided in the bracket.
    4. Continue routing all fiber-optic cables, working toward the inner slots (4 to 6).
    5. Repeat steps a through d for cards in slots 9 to 14, starting with the outer slots; in this case, you attach the tie to the inner bracket at the right of the card.
  3. Connect and route the nonfiber cables:
    1. Starting with the cards installed in the outer slots (1 to 3 and 12 to 14), insert the cables in the appropriate connectors on a card.
    2. Loosely bundle the cables for a card between and beneath the outer cable guides for that card.
    3. Tie-wrap the bundled cables from each card to the outside edge of the rack.
    4. Continue routing all nonfiber cables, working toward the inner slots (4 to 6 and 9 to 11).
  4. Connect and route the management access cables, depending on the type of management access you have selected:
    1. Insert each cable into the appropriate connector on the card.
    2. Loosely bundle the cables in the center area between the cable guides for slot 6 and slot 9, and route them with the other nonfiber cables. Route the cables for slot 7 to the left side of the chassis and for slot 8 to the right side of the chassis.
    3. Tie-wrap the cables from each controller card to form a bundle, and then tie each bundle to the outside edge of the rack.
  5. Close the front panel of the cable management tray; the latch snaps into place and secures the panel.

1.3   Installing the Front Bezel

To install the bezel:

  1. Place the bezel over the front of the chassis so that the lower slot openings in the bezel side panels line up with the small posts on the inner side of the chassis side panels.
  2. Slide the bezel into the chassis until you hear it click into place.
  3. Adjust the bezel so that the captive fastener (thumbscrew) on each side is aligned with the corresponding screw hole in the cable management tray.
  4. Tighten the thumbscrews to secure the bezel to the chassis.

1.3.1   Removing the Bezel

To remove the bezel:

  1. Loosen the captive fastener (thumbscrew) on each side.
  2. Push the release buttons on each side of the bezel simultaneously and slide the bezel out of the chassis.
