1   Enabling Licensed Features

Certain features and functions that are supported in the SmartEdge router require a paid software license. To make use of one of these features or functions, you must enable it with a password that is provided when that license fee is paid. Each feature or function requires its own unique password.

An individual dual-stack subscriber session requires one IPv4 license and one IPv6 license. Those IPv4 and IPv6 licenses are consumed at the time of authentication, whether subscribers are authenticated locally or through RADIUS. The licenses are not returned to the license pool until the entire subscriber session for both stacks (IPv4and IPv6) is down. For example, if the IPv4 session for a dual-stack subscriber goes down while the IPv6 session remains active, the IPv4 license is not returned to the license pool until the IPv6 session goes down, at which time both licenses (IPv4 and IPv6) are returned to the pool.

To enable software licensing for one or more of these features and functions, perform the tasks described in Table 1.

Enable the license for a feature and its functions; enter these commands in software license configuration mode:


L2TP features and functions.


You must specify the L2TP functions to be enabled.


IPv6 features and functions


All IPv6 functions are enabled.


MPLS features and functions.


All MPLS functions are enabled.


PIM features and functions


All PIM functions are enabled.


IPv4 subscriber features and functions.

subscriber (IPv4 software license configuration)

You must specify the subscriber functions to be enabled.


IPv6 subscriber features and functions.

subscriber (IPv6 subscriber license configuration)

The SmartEdge router supports a maximum of 500 or 64,000 IPv6 subscribers.

2   Example: Enable Software Licensing

The following example enables the features and functions for paid license features and functions; a unique password is required for each feature or function to be enabled:
